Leander Schlegel (1844-1913): the most significant Dutch composer of his time. From 1900 onwards, his fame took flight in Vienna, where he was frequently performed and highly esteemed. Frans van Ruth, internationally acclaimed pianist and Schlegel-researcher, will speak about this extraordinary composer, dedicating special attention to the very recent  world premiere of Schlegel’s second string quartet.

Leander Schlegel was also the only distinct dutch composer of “Lieder” in his time.  With Frans van Ruth as editor, the stunning Lied-cycle “Deutsche Liebeslieder Opus 20” were published in a modern edition by Donemus. The performance of five songs from this cycle will be part of the conference.

Muziekkamer Oegstgeest is organiser of the lecture-recital. The entrance is free; for more details and a vocal foretaste: click here!
